Wanstead and Marylebone Pluckroses
Origins
I haven't yet found John in the 1851 census so I have little idea of his origins. He was certainly living in Wanstead at the time of the 1821 census but I doubt that he was born there. He could be related to the Woodford Pluckroses, or he could have come from further afield. There is a John Pluck who was born in Saffron Walden in 1766 (which fits exactly for date), but we then have to go up the tree for three generation to find Pluckroses. There were plenty of shoemakers in this branch of the family, however.
John and his wife, Mary Ann Foster, had at least 13 children. This, in itself, is not impossible, but the recorded birth dates appear to include three sets of twins - which does appear unlikely. Either the dates are wrong or some of the children belong to another Wanstead Pluckrose family.
Further generations
I am reasonably confident about the rest of the tree which has been compiled mainly from BMD and census records. There will be omissions, of course - the usual ones being children who were born and died between census dates or are unassignable because there was more than one Pluckrose family in the area at the time.

Notes |
| ARGENT | Louisa J | There was an earlier Louisa who was born Q3 1858, London City 1c 59 who died (probably the same child) Q1 1859 London City 1c 68. Almost certainly the first child of William Argent and Louisa Emily. | |
| 1661 | FOSTER | Mary Ann | living with family in 1871, aged 77, on parish relief |
| 1706 | MORRIS | Theresa Agnes | She was married at the age of 19 but was widowed within a few months. In the 1901 census she was living with her parents working as a manageress to a duplicator manufacture. She remarried in 1905 (Q3 1905 West Ham 4a 368). |
| 1696 | PLUCKROSE | Ada Maud Sophia | Ada Maria S in GRO birth index |
| 1689 | PLUCKROSE | Albert | The 1891 census has an Albert Pluckrose living in Bethnal Green, a boarder, aged 24, married but no wife or family present, a boot finisher, born in London (no more detail). No marriage found in GRO index so his recorded married state is probably a mistake. |
| 1671 | PLUCKROSE | Alexander | There is a birth & death which may be relevant to this family birth: Alexander Pluckrose Q2 1864 St Giles 1b 438 death: Alexander Pluckrose Q2 1865 St Giles 1b 326. C1851 - a footman in the Grafton Street, Mayfair, household of Major General (retired) Sir Frederick Ashworth in Grafton Street, Mayfair. This is probably the Brigadier Ashworth who commanded the Portuguese Brigade under Wellington during the Peninsula War. |
| 1681 | PLUCKROSE | Elizabeth Ann | There is a possible confusion/error in the 1881 census entry: she is visiting her parents with her 12 year old daughter, Elizabeth, but is recorded as unmarried and with her maiden name. |
| 1666 | PLUCKROSE | Jane | C1851 - house servant with sister Emily in Leyton household of John Peter (confectionery merchant) and his Dutch wife. |
| 1660 | PLUCKROSE | John | Unusually, a record has been found of the 1821 parish census of Wanstead which shows John and his family. The information given is sketchy, comprising a name, occupation and the number of other occupants of the house split by age and sex. It is possible to reconstruct the family as follows: PLUCKROSE, J or I Occupation: Trade 2 males 5-10 {i.e. William and George} 1 male 20-30 {unknown - ?lodger or male relative} 1 male 40-50 {John was born in 1776 according to 1841 census] 2 females under 5 {i.e. Elizabeth and Mary Ann} 1 female 20-30 {Probably Mary Ann Foster who was born in 1796} 1 female 70-70 {probably mother or mother-in-law} Total: 8 Census made on or immediately after 28 March 1821 |
| 1670 | PLUCKROSE | Louisa Emily | C1851 - house servant with sister Jane in Leyton household of John Peter (confectionery merchant) and his Dutch wife. |
| 1693 | PLUCKROSE | Selina Sarah | C1901 married with one year old son (and 62 year old husband) |
| 1679 | PLUCKROSE | William Alexander | born William Alexander but calls himself Alexander William on marriage and in 1881census |
| 1707 | WOODS | Leah Eliza | Leah was probably a widow when she married Henry William since she has two daughters - Annie Clara Wood [18] and Rosie E Wood [8], as well as the one year old Henry Pluckrose at the time of the 1901 census. By then she was widowed for the second time. |
There is a birth & death which may be relevant to this family:
birth: Alexander Pluckrose Q2 1864 St Giles 1b 438
death: Alexander Pluckrose Q2 1865 St Giles 1b 326.
